Nicotinamide (also known as niacinamide) is the amide compound of nicotinic acid. It appears as a white crystalline powder; odorless or nearly odorless, with a bitter taste; slightly hygroscopic. It is readily soluble in water or ethanol, and soluble in glycerol. Clinically, it is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of pellagra, stomatitis, glossitis, sick sinus syndrome, and atrioventricular block.
